Identifying your Strengths

Now is a great time to set your 2009 golf goals. First we must set realistic goals for our individual golf games. In doing this we need to determine what hurts us the most in our game. To establish this, break your round down into these areas: putting, chipping, pitching, short irons, mid irons, fairway woods, and driver. Which area does your game need the most work? In the beginning this is where you should spend the majority of your practice time. As you practice you will notice that this area is improving and you can direct your attention to the next area in your game that needs work. Please remember that practicing correct fundamentals is essential to improving your overall golf game. In addition, it is necessary to practice correctly to reach your goals for the season. For example, let’s say you are having trouble with short pitch shots. When you practice on the range or Bray Links you should only take the clubs that you would use when pitching. Practice specifically on yardage control and find out exactly how far each club flies in the air. Doing this allows you to stay focused on the task and practice specifically what hurts you the most. In the end, doing this will allow you to maximize your practice time without any distractions.
